Kayo Shri Gowri Lyrics in Kannada and English
The song was the official anthem of Kingdom of Mysore under Wodeyar Dynasty. The song was penned and composed by Basavappa Shastry, who was also the court poet of Mysore Kingdom under Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar.
In 1881, when the British decided to constitute Mysore as their princely state under Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar, the king asked the court poet to compose a state anthem so as to commemorate the occasion.
Kayo Sri Gowri is composed in Raaga Dheerashankarabharanam (Carnatic) and Bilawal (Hindustani). Also the last charanas of the song has been modified continuously, as the new heir to the Kingdom came to power.
